The food was not bad, but very disappointing for the price. French onion soup was very salty and difficult to enjoy, and the crispy pork was not very flavorful. The escargot was fantastic with a delicious garlic butter sauce and perfect texture. The duck cassoulet wasn't bad, though the duck thighs were a bit dry and overcooked. Similarly, the braised rabbit was slightly tough and overcooked, but palatable. It was cooked with pearl onions in a sauce similar to pot roast. Finally, we ordered some kind of apple bread pudding with a whipped marscapone topping and caramel + vanilla syrup that was alright. Most items were underwhelming, and for a $189 total, I would expect better. The atmosphere was dark and private in large wooden booths, but the music playing inside the restaurant didn't mat

39 Rue de Jean offers a lively, classic French brasserie experience with plenty of charm. The atmosphere stands out warm, energetic, and full of personality. It definitely captures that fun “Ooh Là Là!” vibe that makes it feel like a night out. Service was attentive and friendly, keeping things moving smoothly throughout the meal. The food was comforting the French onion soup was rich and cheesy with great flavor though a few elements didn’t quite rise to the same level as the service and ambiance. Still, a good spot for traditional French fare in a vibrant setting. Overall, a very enjoyable experience and worth a visit.

We had a great experience at our stopby in Charleston at this awesome French Restaurant. Cocktails were great. We had filet mignon, cheese fondue, steak tartare and a creme brulee. All of them was perfect. We have been there without reservation but they have taken care with us really nice. Great team was serving. Their manager was so competant, he was visiting all the tables as it should be. Thank you ! Definately Recommended.

Charleston restaurant week is an opportunity to explore the beautiful food scene the city offers for a fair price for everyone. I tasked my wife with choosing the one spot we would try and not tell me. Right off King St we arrived to 39 Rue de Jean. I really didn’t know what to expect. French, a warm atmosphere, normally out of my price range for a normal meal. The door was held open, and we were seated right away because of our Friday night reservation. The staff were very friendly and attentive to anything we needed. The inside was warm and inviting. Brick arches, booths and tables, and warm dim lights. The small tables felt a little too close together, the room needed less tables in total. I could have almost touched someone if I extended both my arms towards the tables next to us. Full

Thank you so much for accommodating our group of 25. Hutson Alley decorated for the holidays was so much fun. Our table was ready and prepped early. The food was delicious and our service was impeccable. Everyone had a wonderful time. Merry Christmas
