ABC Chinese Restaurant

I found this lovely little gem about a month ago, and am I glad I did! The food here is excellent, they will also make things that aren’t necessarily on the menu. Proper NYC style, not too salty. I always start with the young chow fried rice and some form of tofu. The chef kindly made me a fresh salt and pepper tofu and knocked it out of the park. I have also tried the chicken with mushrooms and the mapu tofu. The vegetables with the chicken were fresh and sweet. And the mapu tofu was perfect, a tiny bit of heat and plenty of flavour. Diane is wonderful, the embodiment of friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend ABC!

ABC Chinese has been around nearly 40 years, but it wasn’t on my radar until I heard it had been renovated and the food improved drastically. The place feels vintage yet spotless—cream tablecloths, padded booths, and real china. It’s got that unmistakable “after temple” energy, full of regulars who’ve been coming here for decades. Lucy, the owner (formerly of Shanghai City in Boca), and her longtime server Diane have breathed new life into this old-school favorite. The hot and sour soup is hearty, the pork fried rice is smoky and full of char siu, and the steamed shrimp with roasted garlic over spinach is a must. There’s also a cash-only Sunset Dinner menu served all day—soup, egg roll, fried rice, and dessert, all under $20.

I placed a rather large takeout order, to my surprise the food average was mediocre. The spare ribs had no red basting sauce basically flavorless. The Hot and sour soup had no spiciness whatsoever to it and the color was more golden than the traditional red/brown tint, plus it had zero Jillian roast pork strips. The happy family was boring as well. No flavor. Overall the food was edible but with very little to no flavor at all. Very disappointing. Hopefully it was just a bad night since a lot of the reviews state how good it is.

Finally some good Chinese food in town. I also recognize the owners from the previous restaurant in Boca Raton which was also very good. Very glad they're down here now in Broward. My fourth time ordering and very pleased with my takeout. General Tso, fish with ginger and scallion, and chicken with eggplant. Very friendly and attentive service, and a very clean restaurant to boot! I am a Chinese food connoisseur very particular about my Chinese food, and my wife normally doesn't eat it, but this is the only Chinese food she will eat!

Nothing like paying full price for shortened portions. Comparing to local competitors, they are more expensive and don't pack the food into containers so you end up with less. Large meals can be packed into small containers (we tested). Disappointing...
