Adams Street Branch of the Boston Public Library

Amazing interior with lots of access to exterior sunlight. One giant main space with smaller nooks created by shoulder height shelves. Children area is a plus. Ceiling ties all the spaces together. Each space has a different height and subtly changes from one space to another. If you pay close attention, most of the columns are steel, but the major beams are laminate timber which hides among the wood baffles (which are all uniquely at different lengths). The exterior doesn’t scream. The scalloped terracotta tiles give it an extra layer of detail that reveal their shape when the sunlight hit them at the right angle. Well worth a visit. But if you are studying, bring a pair of headphones or ear plugs. It can get loud.

A small and comfortable library with helpful staff who are not intrusive. They have plenty of tables and cubby corners to sit and do work. The teen area is separated and on the left when you walk in. The children area is on the back right. Two restrooms in library and a printing/copying area. In middle on right is a slew of computers for online interest. They have a small shelf of food donations and a shelf of books for sale. Prices are according to what a person can pay. There’s a jar you put the money into privately so there’s no shame if you can’t contribute much. They accept book donations as long as they are in good shape and not margenalized or overly highlighted in.

Excellent service at a neighborhood library. Lots of computers for public use and inexpensive printing.

New go to spot. Parking is the only issue. Staff here are awesome. Helpful and welcoming.
