On a recent trip through Elizabeth, we decided to check out a restaurant highly recommended by the hotel staff and I’m so glad we did! As soon as we arrived, we were greeted without any wait time, and our friendly server quickly took our drink order. Being non-drinkers, we opted for lemonade, and let me tell you. It was nothing short of spectacular! With the perfect balance of tartness and sweetness, it set the tone for what would be an amazing meal. For our entrees, we chose the lobster ravioli and the shrimp with rice (I couldn't resist personalizing mine with added onions, tomatoes, and fresh peas). We went for lunch. I’m a vegetarian. My husband wanted seafood. I haven’t eaten here in over 20 years because in the past they had nothing hit me. Now there’s a small selection. But the portions are big. My husband had lump crab cakes but they weren’t limb crab. 🦀 I didn’t take a star for that. But he won’t be ordering those again. He had salmon fillet. It was large and thick with shrimp 🍤 and mashed potatoes and string beans. I had a goat cheese salad. Huge. Vegetable dish 🥕 🥦 🧅 🍅 which was grilled vegetables , rice and beans. Very large. A half pitcher of champagne sangria. Section half of our food home along with flan. The bill automatically charged us 18% gratuity. It came to $137.00. —— Ordered delivery several times. Algarve is hands down the best Portuguese restaurant! The food is absolutely divine. Their garlic seasoning is perfectly balanced and full of flavor. The cooks truly know what they’re doing, and it shows in every dish they prepare. I also appreciate how kind and welcoming they are when you place an order—unlike some other restaurants where you’re met with attitude. The seasoned garlic vegetables are incredible! Trust me, I’ve tasted a lot of food, and this place really gets it right. The spinach, garlic vegetables, and salmon taste amazing—each bite is full of flavor and cooked to perfection. If you’re looking for authentic, delicious Portuguese food, this is definitely the place to go!

Hot delicious fresh food. Hot bread and cold water they bring out is a plus. Very flavorful. My son had the meatloaf this visit. Mashed potatoes were so good, buttery and hot ,even heated up the next day they taste amazing. Sangria is consistently good, the best I've had anywhere in NJ!! Lots of options on the menu. I take pictures on most visits. I don't always remember the names. If you see aeal pictured thatbyou like, show the staff. They are always helpful and accommodatimg.

I’m really disappointed by my recent experience. Because we didn’t speak Spanish, the employee was dismissive, unhelpful, and gave us unnecessary attitude. We were treated differently for no valid reason, which made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. I love this place, but behavior like this makes me hesitant to return.
