What the heck happened to the bread? I’m sad to report that I wanted a farmhouse, rustic, sourdough bread for toast and buying this last night missed the mark, big time! Now, I’m sure folks buy this brand out of loyalty BUT not me. After months of eating local home baked bread from farmers markets and then eating this! I know, I know, can’t compare yet the price increased so much, it’s comparable in price but not in texture and flavor. First thing that came to mind was the big controversy about the sub franchise and their ‘yoga mat material’ tasting rolls. Ok, see the picture I’m trying to portray?

We’re a small pizza shop near Lancaster where finding a good Italian roll is next to impossible… fortunately we were able to find a driver, who’s awesome,to come out here… The issue, though, is with consistency… there is none. One day they’re damn near perfect and the next, they’re different sizes or skinny or wonky… Back in the day, my dad used to a production manager for Amoroso when they were on Baltimore Ave in Philly so I remember how they used to be … and how far they’ve declined… I’m still rooting for them though… unless I can get Liscio’s out here!!

I totally agree with Audrey’s review. I have been buying a bag of rolls a week for as long as I can remember and for the past couple of months the slice has been off. Their rolls aren’t cheap and throwing a lot of them away because you can’t make a sandwich is so disappointing. With that being said I am willing to pay more for a good roll and keep giving them a chance to fix the issue. A week or so ago I sent them a personal email with pictures and haven’t received a response. My suggestion in that email was to stop slicing the rolls all together. If the next bag I buy is sliced wrong I will start trying other brands!!!

I was born and raised in Elkton, MD a little south of Philly and grew up on Amaroso’s bread. Moved to Pittsburgh and own a restaurant here and just found a supplier that brings it here. So happy to show my customers the awesome sub/hoagie rolls from back home.

UPDATE: THANKS AMOROSO'S FOR LISTENING. All is well. Club rolls are back to normal. Perfectly sized and sliced. Yay! You're the best of the best. Original post: I've been a lifelong, more than satisfied, customer of Amoroso's rolls...until now. Initially, I overlooked the fact that your club rolls are noticeably smaller in size mostly because it's a suitable portion for me. My sons however, are not happy. Now, over the past few months the rolls are not evenly sliced and I'm the one the family complains to. So, I must ask..What is happening? Seems you stopped caring which is completely out of character for such a beloved Philly bakery. People are counting on you...we appreciate you...you can do this!
