Anson stands as one of the very best Southern restaurants in Charleston, a place where the city’s rich culinary heritage is honored with elegance, warmth, and unmistakable care. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere feels both refined and welcoming classic Lowcountry charm blended seamlessly with an intimate, timeless dining room that invites you to slow down and savor the experience. The food is nothing short of remarkable, showcasing Southern cuisine at its finest: beautifully executed dishes rooted in tradition yet elevated with thoughtful technique, impeccable ingredients, and deep, comforting flavors that feel authentic rather than overworked. Each plate arrives as a quiet celebration of Charleston’s culinary soul, from fresh seafood to expertly prepared meats and soulful s
Atmosphere is great. It's a small restaurant and very personable. Leah was great! Whole flounder was incredible, cannot possibly go wrong with this choice. Shrimp pasta was delicious and homemade but spicy and I loved it. Lobster "cargo" is a play on escargot and fantastic. I'm not a bread eater but it was really really good. The food was delicious. The vibe is local. Tables are laid out to be private. My second time here and really loved it.
We celebrated our anniversary tonight at the Anson. Our experience was first class from start to finish! The service was stellar, and the food was incredible (we had she-crab soup, baby beet salad, ravioli, and the halibut). Portions were perfect, and top notch. We highly recommend the Anson. Parking is close and convenient as well. We couldn't have asked for better.
Had dinner here today and overall really enjoyed the experience. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and gave thoughtful recommendations. Food was mostly great, with a few standouts and one miss for me. - She crab soup: Rich, complex, and clearly made with top-tier ingredients. You get a burst of layered flavors in every spoonful, with little bites of veggies like celery adding a refreshing crunch. It’s the kind of dish that probably has 55 steps behind it. - Beet salad: Unexpectedly amazing. Chilled beets with burrata, pistachios, and other tiny nuts made for the perfect balance of nutty, crunchy, sour and bright. - Pork chop (special): My husband’s pick. Super crispy skin, peppery, and came with a rich mushroom sauce. He said it was the best pork chop he’s had. - Whole crispy flounde
Anson has been one of my favorite fine dining restaurants since the 90's, and definitely my favorite for fish and scallops! Still great! We had the grouper, halibut, brussel sprouts, and scallops for appetizer but the pork chop sounded tempting. Amazing!
