"Great books, aggressive heartbreak hotline" Ah, the local library—a supposed haven of calm, paper-scented peace. You’d think this cozy little spot would be a perfect escape from the world. Quiet corners, whispering pages, maybe a warm lamp glow or two. That illusion lasted about 37 seconds. Instead, I was met with a symphony of parental despair, echoing off the shelves like a Greek tragedy on fast-forward. The staff (or possibly just one very vocal librarian) has taken it upon themselves to narrate—at full volume—the catastrophic dating lives of their adult children. I learned more about some adult man-childs failed situationship and love life drama than I did from the actual books I tried to read. Somers Point location. I grew up being told libraries were a place of quiet. A place to read in peace, a place to study, in peace. Not this location! While patrons sat quietly, the librarian on the second floor talked at the top of her lungs to any passerby she could grab to have a conversation with.... the cleaning guy, someone she met one time, etc. We all heard about her grandkids, how people would recruit her to kill their squirrels, and on and on. Finally fed up, people started moving to the first floor, including myself. I recommend this location only if you're desperate to make small LOUD talk with a librarian who does not subscribe to the typical atmosphere most quiet libraries are known for.

To patron who had a terrible noisy experience: I'm so sorry about that, but that's never been my experience. It's always been the peaceful experience I've expected. 🙂

I enjoy the ventnor branch & the Galloway branch. Then I moved to Somers point. The librarian upstairs is always very salty to me. Other people walk in & she's very happy to see them. It has been 3x now. At first I thought she was just having a bad day. I am polite & courteous. Maybe I should send her flowers or cat food.

Stopped in with my kids during a beach vacation week. Everyone was so kind! Kids did a craft and we bought books for just a few dollars to fill a bag.
