This was my first time having Yemeni food and it will not be the last. The staff was reluctant to let me have a large table as I was eating alone but they relented when I told them I would order enough food for a full table. The appetizers I got were as follows: Labnah - which was was delightful. I never would have thought yougurt and bread paired together so well. I ate the pita bread on its own it was so good. I was not surprised by how good the Tanoor bread was later but we'll circle back to that. Whatever oil and spices they put in the yougurt were delightful, 8/10. Hummus with Shredded Lamb - I would get this as a main dish. The lamb was very flavorful and the hummus complimented it well. It was so good with the pita bread also, 9/10. Foul Al‑Shams - I was personally not a fan of the
Bab Al-Yemen in Boston is a gem. My husband took me there for my birthday dinner, and we loved it so much that we went back again with family and friends. We tried the chicken mandi, mathbi chicken, falafel over rice, chicken and veggie stews, and finished with the dessert Fattah Tamr—everything was flavorful and delicious. I especially loved the traditional floor seating, which made the experience feel warm and authentic. Highly recommend!
This was our first time trying this restaurant. A student at Boston University recommended to us and I’m so glad we gave it a try! We asked our server for recommendations and each item was delicious! The atmosphere is a great escape and felt we were transported to Yemen. The staff was very helpful and we will definitely be back!
My dad and I came here for an early afternoon lunch. We enjoyed the Yemeni Cocktail with a delicious sweet accompaniment to our meal. We started with the Mutabal with pita and Veggie Samboosa. For our main dish we enjoy the Lamb Haneeth. I recommend getting a side of Marak and Sahawek to have along side any started or entree. All delicious and flavorful. Our darling waitress offered us both Mint and Adani tea to finish off our meals. We really enjoyed our time here and would come again.
Generally I think this place has been overhyped. We got their lamb hummus, fahsa, and maasoob. Food is slightly under seasoned compared to Yemeni dishes I’ve had; and I expected the maasoob to be more aromatic. The flat bread is good and the hummus is creamy and balanced. The staff are friendly and the restaurant is well maintained.
