BabyCakes Cupcakery has beautiful, eye-catching desserts that look amazing, but they’re a bit too sweet for my taste. Great presentation, just wish the flavors were more balanced.
The Babycakes on Reo: The label indicated this cupcake was blood orange. It was an unsatisfactory heavy vanilla sponge, with frozen blueberries on the bottom (why?); the buttercream frosting was good. Although the frosting totally lacked tang/blood orange acid to off set the sweetness; and the tiny sugar glazed candied (preserved?) mandarin orange bit was soggy. This cupcake needed to be topped with a fresh half slice of beautiful blood orange. Score 1-2 out of ten. Tossed it in the garbage after eating the blueberries in the bottom with a bit of the kinda vanilla flavored buttercream frosting. Hans-Harry has 100% better cupcakes. Maybe offer fewer flavors and focus on freshness and a lighter sponge. Signed: Cupcake Lover Jenny W.
First time ordering a cake here, and my family and I agree, this is our new birthday cake spot! I ordered a red velvet cake as requested by my 17 year old birthday girl. I'm not usually a fan of red velvet cake personally, but I would eat Babycakes' red velvet again in a heartbeat. It was beautiful and delicious. The cake was moist, the cream cheese icing was light and fluffy, and it included a raspberry filling which was a pleasant surprise that really made boring red velvet flavor (in my opinion) something special and interesting. A lot of bakery cakes are sweet enough to take the enamel off your teeth but this cake was just the right sweetness for our tastes. If you dislike the intense sweetness of many of the chain cake bakeries, you too will probably like Babycakes. Service at the Hi
Had them make my wedding cake and they did not disapppoint!!! 10/10 for the design and the tres leches flavor was absolutely to die for.
We ordered 14 cupcakes for a special occasion. 12 chocolate peanut butter and 2 pumpkin spice. The chocolate peanut butter cupcakes are amazing!! Probably the best all around in San Diego, but I would definitely NOT recommend the pumpkin spice. They are extremely soggy on the bottom of the cupcake. I called to ask about them, and they are apparently supposed to be that way. Yuck, who wants soggy soaked cupcakes? Not us. So I would recommend steering clear of those.
