Beach Branch Library

Great location. Very nice people who work there, they’re always helpful. 6 pm closing is kinda early for working people. Not everyone is retired who live by the beach.

Contrary to what some post, during library hours parking in the library lot is currently free, confirmed by the signs posted in the lot, and by the staff. My wife has used various services there over the years, and I recently dropped off a worn-out U.S. flag for respectful disposal (there is a box in the lobby for this purpose). Back to parking, the city does charge outside library hours for parking in the lot, and at all times on the street. It is close to the beach, and could be misused.

I refuse to be a patron of a "PUBLIC" library that you have to pay for parking. Yes, I understand that it is the beach and that if you didn't have to pay then others would take advantage. There needs to be a better system so that patrons don't have to pay or they get a reduced price. One star for the benefit of doubt since I never went inside, but also because I can't give it zero stars. Criticize me all you want for not going inside, but I made my point.

Careful when borrowing books from here. Check the book cover for any stains or tears and have the librarian note any. If you don't and you return the book with any stains (whether they were there at the time you borrowered them) they WILL make you buy the book AND charge a $10 admin. fee. According to the librarian "we don't allow books to be borrowed if they are damaged"! I now check all books carefully and note any pages that are stained while reading the book. If you don't pay for the book you are not allowed to borrow any others. I've also been told that if you don't pay your library fines you will not be able to renew you car registration or your drivers license.

The Pompano Beach Library is beautiful, the librarians are very helpful. The guests forget this is a library and not Starbucks. The library can be noisy, to much social talking & use of cell phones. The librarians need to inforce the rules.
