I love to try the best bakeries around the world and Bread Alley’s quality is definitely world class. The harissa sourdough with black sesame crust was one of the best sourdoughs I’ve had in the US. Same for the almond croissant - insanely crunchy, buttery, not too sweet, with an almost custard like almond paste (devoured before we took a photo).

Bread Alley had been on my foodie radar for a while. It’s the secret spot behind some of DC’s best restaurants, including Le Diplomate. 🍞 On a recent Saturday morning, I finally followed the scent down the alley and joined the small line of locals waiting for a taste of this hidden gem bakery’s weekend special. The shop is tiny and can fit maybe three people at a time, but that’s part of its charm. I went straight for the limited-edition charcoal croissant 🖤—flaky, buttery, and the perfect moody bite for Halloween season. The pastry case was filled with chocolate croissants, kouign-amann, and a ham & cheese croissant (Friday–Sunday only). Their bread selection was just as tempting: award-winning baguettes, “spooky” sourdough, and a harissa loaf with black sesame crust that looked incred

A hidden bread speakeasy in Union Marlet DC that I heard about in social media, and is probably some of the best bread I've ever had!!! Bread Alley is small bakery tucked away on Morse Street NE! You need to ring the doorbell and explore their amazing, limited selection of breads. I recommend visiting early because the breads go quick! I went around 1pm and there were only 3 different sourdoughs still available, and a few croissants. I loved their Cranberry Walnut Sourdough and Gingerdoodle Cookie.

The breads and pastries are fresh, flavorful, and baked to perfection. I love the variety of options and the attention to quality in every item. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the shop has a cozy, inviting atmosphere. It’s my go-to spot for delicious baked goods, and I highly recommend it!

I didn’t mind at first that it’s located in like the grimiest alley of DC straight out of ninja turtles - with rats and just goo on the pavement because the bread was good. But now Half of the time I come here they’re sold out, so no bread. This time it’s just empty. Hours before closing. Is this a soviet union simulator?
