Cafe Luna On Kennedy

I found another hidden Gem in an office building. In Tampa, I have found several great breakfast and lunch spots off the main drags and restaurant rows. I encourage you to try them out. These smaller eateries always seem to be so much more personal and willing to go the extra mile with a smile. Today was no different when I tried Cafe Luna on Kennedy in Tampa. I ordered the 3-egg omelette with three piggies (3 pork meats), hash-browns Crispy, and extra butter on my toast. I requested Cafe Con Leche/decaf… all was superior to any breakfast I’ve had downtown Tampa this year. There are only about 10 tables and a 20’ street-front window-length bar-top with stools. Stumbled into this place when it was one of the only cafes in the area open on the Friday morning after Thanksgiving. Could not have been a more fortuitous find. Cafe Luna is so much more than a cafe. It is a labor of love by its owners, who were putting up holiday decorations with such care and detail while we ate. It is an ode to the often-forgotten sense of wonder and joy with which our inner child viewed the world (see the owner's little curated corner of beloved childhood memorabilia). And it is a showcase for the incredible woodworking skills of its owners-- every wooden item in the cafe, from the tables to the decorations, was hand carved! We had an exceptional breakfast at Café Luna on Kennedy. Don’t let the location fool you — this place is an absolute gem. We’re visiting from New Jersey and just happened to stumble upon it on our way to the airport, and it ended up being the best meal we’ve had all week. We ordered two breakfast burritos — one with sausage and one with bacon— and both were outstanding. Perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and clearly made fresh. Our son had the ham and cheese on a croissant and even that was fantastic. The croissant was fresh and buttery, and everything tasted top quality. Even the homemade hot sauce was top notch and took it to another level.

I have visited Cafe Luna on Kennedy several times this last month. Each time I visited, I had something different, and every time, no matter what I got, it was so, so delicious!! I’ve gotten breakfast dishes, lunch dishes, and coffees. I have eaten there and have gotten it to go. No matter what I got or how I got it, it was so good! My favorite so far is the breakfast burrito with ham. They make everything fresh and quick and the service is excellent! I’ve even stayed a bit after eating just to do some work on my laptop and it was a great environment for that. Even if you aren’t doing business in the office building where it’s located, you can easily park in the parking garage (it’s free parking) and walk through the office building’s lobby to the cafe. Beautiful owners that are kind and warm. The food was outstanding. I got a chicken breakfast bowl and added hot sauce. The chicken was so flavorful. Don’t overlook this spot.
