I’ve always been a big fan of the deli department. Been going there for years. Went there not too long ago. Ordered a couple of sandwiches. Minor changes, salami for capicola on one and sweet peppers instead of hot peppers on the other. Although the person taking my order looked at me and appeared to understand it soon became obvious that this person did not speak any English. I watched the sandwiches being made, and they were not what I had ordered. I tried to stop the person so that they could correct it and again, although this person looked at me and appeared to understand, went back to doing exactly what they were doing. It was very frustrating. I walked out and left the sandwiches. The person taking your order should be able to understand what you are saying. Just sayin’ I haven’t be
Absolutely love this restaurant and bakery but the deli section needs some tlc. It’s disappointing because the food isn’t the issue. It’s the staff. My last visit I asked for a turkey sandwich with lettuce, banana peppers and vinegar. Specified no onions because I am allergic. They asked me at least 5 times to repeat, calling me back over to counter. Sandwich comes and it’s turkey onions, jalapeno peppers. Bring it back and no apology. Today, they took my order, disappeared for 10-20 minutes, came back and asked what I wanted. Please figure this out and hire new staff/ train the staff you have. *After speaking with the team they assured me changes are going to be made. Ordered a ham,salami,&provolone . Watched as clerk retrieved a pre-made sandwich from refrigerated case and proceeded to add lettuce tomatoe onion . I asked for fresh sliced and new bread and was told sorry but can’t do that. And at $18plus for a 12” sub? Go to IL Panino in Fairfield or Sorrento in East Hanover , you’ll thank me.
The Pollo Rabe (toasted!) is one of my favorite sandwiches.
