This place is only open for lunch and judging by the crowd, it’s a staple in this part of town. I got the catfish on the recommendation of the waitress and it was pretty good. It only came with one filet but it was also under $10 for the plate. I’ll try the BBQ next time as the catfish wasn’t anything to write home about. Super sweet staff.
So it's the first time I tried a BBQ spot and was told to try the Chicken and dumplings by a local 🤔 so I said why not turns out yes definitely try the Chicken And Dumplings it was very good and homemade the baked beans were good I like a little more brown sugar in mine but full of meat and still very good better than most we moved on to coleslaw yes good 👍 😋 definitely now i have to return to try the BBQ but the small amount that was in the beans tells me it's going to be good now the Cornbread i know it's different to local taste and made the original way im just not a fan it also comes with salted butter remember if you're not a salt fan don't add it to the Cornbread my mistake they also have a bread if you're not into Cornbread but it has definitely been here 80 years now and well love
We shared the 3 meat plate and it was huge. First things first, I'm from South Texas and we do BBQ different. That being said, this was the best bbq we have had since moving to Bham a year ago. The pork was moist and the vinegar sauce was next level. The brisket was above average for the area, but it wasn't like home. Not enough "bark". The ribs were ok, but they needed the rib sauce. We had mac and cheese and potato salad and they were both solid. The building and seating area are like a time machine back to 1945. We will be back.
This is the real deal. Fabulous barbecue great sides and old time atmosphere. Probably the most reasonable barbecue plate in Birmingham and certainly one of the best. The owner Charlie Collat is as nice as he can be
I stopped by this hidden treasure on my way out of Birmingham and it was fantastic. Fits the definition of home in the wall restaurant to a T…and those are the best restaurants! Fast service and reasonable prices, but the key to their success is the food! And it’s top notch, even for vegetarians. The side dishes are delicious…the Mac and cheese and fries in particular. I’ll definitely come back if ever in Birmingham again!
