A true neighborhood gem with over 100 years of history! The Swissvale Carnegie Library opened in 1918 as the last Carnegie library built in Allegheny County, and it still feels like the heart of the community. The building is small but welcoming, with classic brick-and-stone architecture that gives it so much character. Inside, the staff are always friendly and helpful, and there’s a surprisingly wide selection for such a compact space. They also offer useful services like photocopying and document printing. On select Fridays, the library even hosts an open mic and music-making session (check their website for dates), which makes it feel even more like a true community hub. The library is also moving toward some exciting renovations to improve accessibility and modernize the interior. Fo
I appreciate having a resource like this in the community. Joyce was condescending when I went in for some things I needed printing. She got really worked up over me not understanding the process. I'd think if you work at a library you'd have a little more patience.
I needed help getting a library card for my friend who is in an assistant living nearby this Library. I spoke with a woman named Joyce. She walked me through all the questions she needed answered to enable my friend to get a library card without going to the library itself. With the iPad she will be receiving from me, she will be able to download free books and movies! I thought it was going to be such a problem, but Joyce was so patient and helpful I can’t say enough about her. THANK YOU JOYCE. ps. If anyone wants to help keep a loved one or friend more connected to the outside world who are in a home, get them an iPad or give them an old one you own. Also they can send and receive pictures etc. UPDATE. MY FRIEND NEVER RECEIVED HER LIBRARY CARD.
Love my local library! Joyce, Susan, and Max are wonderful! Also get holds from other libraries there often.
This library adds so much value to the community. First off, the staff is great. I've watched them go above and beyond for patrons. While the physical building may have a limited book selection, the ease of having any Carnegie library book transfered there is amazing. Renewals are often automatic. I have loved the monthly zoom cooking classes and other programs. My only small negative is that the suggested donation for printing is quite high ($0.25 per B/W page). The library where I used to live was only 5 cents. Still so grateful to be near this.
