Cheesesteaks by Matu Pasadena

Checked out Matu Cheese Steak right at lunchtime when they opened. Waited about 30 minutes just to place the order and another 30 minutes to get the food, so be prepared for a wait. The sandwich was a decent size with onions, cheese, meat, and peppers. I actually liked the toasted sesame bun the most, it was probably the best part of the whole sandwich. The meat is supposed to be wagyu, but honestly I couldn’t really tell. The grilled onions on mine were mostly burnt, which was pretty disappointing. Felt like there wasn’t much quality control going on. I also ordered their beef tallow chips. They were thin and crispy, which I liked, but my bag only had maybe 10 chips inside, felt kind of skimpy. Get here early there will be a line. Glad they have a location here in pasadena now. I dont have to go to beverlyhills. The wait is not to bad and its worth it. Love the cheese steaks here. Super filling its a good size. The chips comeplet the meal. Its not a cheap sandwitch but the ingredients are worth it. Anytime i am around here i will definitely stop by again and pick up a cheesesteak.

I love cheesesteak sandwichs so I was excited to try this place. I noticed on Google maps that they closed at 2pm on Saturday and I had had 20 minutes to get there before they closed. Boy was I surprised when I arrived. The line was out the door and I decided to wait in the sun for 20+ minutes to try it out. I finally made it inside and the space is shared by a hamburger kitchen and the cheesesteak kitchen. Two separate lines for two separate businesses. This created a bit of confusion for some customers who got in line for the wrong kitchen. They were a man trying to ensure people were in the right lines but it's hard to manage a line of 40+ people waiting in the sun. Wait in line you will be rewarded! Juicy, meaty, cheesy , crunchy goodness my god I want another one. Beer pairing was perfect b/c let me tell you, that pepper hits!!! But it cuts the beef so perfectly that you can’t stop biting. The sesame seeds grew on me, adds a subtle change in flavour and texture that I never experienced with any other sub. Met the owner too, very cool dude ! He knows they are killing it. Pro tip, order the fries from the connecting burger spot, pairs perfectly. 10/10 will wait in that line again.

The cheesesteak is simply delicious. It comes piping hot and comes with the best bread I’ve ever had on a cheesesteak.. the bread is crispy and well toasted and not soggy at all. Plus the sesame seeds on top Add an extra kick. The meat is simply delicious fresh and absolutely phenomenal. Fair warning the pepper does add a major kick (probably wont get it next time) but this was still the best philly ive had.
