Chicken Rico

I had a very disappointing lunch experience at Chicken Rico (1425 University Blvd E, Hyattsville, MD 20783). When I ordered, a middle-aged man named Jorge was working behind the food line. He did not smile or greet me and came across as rude and unwelcoming the entire time. The customer service alone made the experience uncomfortable. The side options were very limited, and unfortunately the food itself was even worse. The chicken smelled strongly like gas, which made it impossible to enjoy or even finish. The rice was undercooked, bland, and had no flavor at all. When I asked for spicy sauce, I was told “no, it comes like this” in a very dismissive tone. One of my favorite places in the DMV, I just love this place, and yes I get the same thing every time I go. My daughter and I get the half roast chicken, white rice topped with pinto beans, and the mixed salad with ranch dressing. The chicken is moist and slightly smoky from the charcoal, the pinto beans are slightly buttery atop the fluffy white rice. Lastly, the mixed green salad is fresh and crunchy with the slightly tangy ranch dressing. It comes with two sauces: yellow which is mild and creamy and the green which is spicy and refreshing. Did I mention I love the place “I’m loco for chicken Rico” don’t tell them I said that.

Grabbed lunch here, half of chicken w/ 2 sides. Fries and Yuka, Yuka was drier than the desert of Qatar. Bulky looking dude with slick bar hair, gold bracelet is so rude/ ALWAYS has a little smirky attitude like bro relax lol you not flexing on no one. This dude has been working there for years, I did read another review saying they encountered a similar issue, something about the son of the owner, if that's the same dude I wouldn't be surprised. Food was okay nothing special would recommend Sardis before this hole in the wall spot. I've given it to many tries and it still don't hit 4/10 spot

I agree with Brittany Simpsons. My Son and Daughter-in law sent me a family meal yesterday for Mother's Day. They sent the wrong sides. When I called to see if they could fix the problem, the man told me "no more fried rice, sorry ",then hung up. I called back, but I guess you have to be Hispanic to get treated right. Never order for delivery if you're not.

First time I had Chicken Rico I was in love. I think I have had it one too many times. I like the fact that their chicken is charcoal broiled right in front of you. Reasonable prices and okay employees. Good portioned size food. At times their chicken fried rice is out at the end of the day so get there earlier before closing.
