We ended up at the Columbia city hotel restaurant after my wedding, when the original place we were going to was closed for repairs. They stayed open for us, set up a giant table for us, and accommodated everyone who showed up (some without even telling me they were coming, so I didn't have an accurate number of guests when we walked in). The food was great, service went above and beyond for us. It made my wedding day that much more memorable, highly reccomend this place.

My daughter and I were visiting Columbia on Labor Day weekend, and wanted to stay in town at one of the hotels to get the full experience. I absolutely loved it, and it exceeded my expectations tremendously! This visit was more for the novelty, but I actually enjoyed the hotel so much that I would stay here again if I was ever in the area, not just visiting Columbia SP. I’m glad I read the reviews before I went, so I knew what to expect in terms of amenities. My favorite things:||- The hotel was very clean, and nothing felt shabby even though it was meant to represent the 1800s. Pictures do not do this place justice!||- The AC worked amazingly! It was so cool inside the hotel compared to outside, and there was a separate thermostat my room, so I could turn up the AC even higher. Felt very

Went for dinner, planned for about 1.5 hours for dinner before a show at the theater. Waited to be seated for our reservation, waited for the servers to determine who would be our server. Significant wait for our appetizer to come out, while the brie was delicious and nicely presented, it was cooled down. Our dinner never came in time, had to wait about 9 minutes for the "GM to box it up" for us. No offer of compensation for the spilled drink on my wife or delays in the meals/ food. Arrived home after the show to find my "braised beef pasta" didn't have any beef. First time visitor, possibly my last.

The City Hotel and What Cheer Saloon in historic Columbia is an absolute gem. I’ve eaten here no less than a dozen times, and they never miss — amazing food, first-class service, and a truly beautiful setting every single visit. Whether you’re grabbing lunch while exploring the historic park or settling in for dinner, the menu delivers every time, and the staff makes you feel genuinely welcome. The location itself adds to the experience — you’re enjoying a great meal in the heart of California’s Gold Rush history. Do not pass this place up. It’s a must-stop whenever you’re in Columbia — always amazing!
