Crockett's Fish Fry

Crockets is home cooked away from home. From the jump, the energy was love, you walk in and feel seen, welcomed, and taken care of. That kind of service is rare.. Now let’s talk about this food. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection. The macaroni and cheese was rich, creamy, and baked just right. The collard greens were seasoned down, tender, and full of flavor like somebody’s auntie was in the kitchen all day. The fried catfish came crisp, golden, and flaky on the inside—not greasy, just right. And that potato salad was smooth, balanced, and dangerous because you keep going back for “just one more bite.” Big thanks for taking care of dinner because Crockets handled EVERYTHING. Shrimp was fried perfectly but the cornmeal like batter is on the sweet side so just a heads up there. It tasted fine but was not expecting it. As for the sides, skip the mac and cheese, it’s basically stouffers. The potato salad is the star here. Didn’t try any other sides and the dessert menu was non existent except for sweet potato pie. Could have been the time I got there though. All in all, the meal wasn’t bad but definitely not worth the hype mentioned here.

Tried this for the first time and first of all the smell coming in was a dirty fish smell. When i tasted the fish it tasted super fishy like they didn’t clean the fish or soak it in lemon prior to cooking . I also felt my stomach reject it since it had an off taste. A hour or 2 later i threw up out of nowhere! $13 down the drain. I’ve had fish from fast food places that tasted better and cleaner than this. Also with all that cash they making, the least you can do is clean your meat properly and make the restaurant look cleaner and more inviting. I should’ve went to Panera bread across the street. Will not be back

Came here to order takeout for the first time. **Cash only sign on the door** . Luckily I had cash. My husband ordered the whiting fish with hush puppies and peach cobbler. The portion of fish was great for the value. My husband really enjoyed the taste but there was still some skin left on the fish. The hush puppies and peach cobbler were delish. Overall can't complain. Quick service and great value!

I've driven past here many times and didn't really notice them but last week I stopped in. I got takeout and it was GREAT! The jumbo shrimp and potato salad were EXCELLENT. The greens were good but a little bland. I will definitely stop here again for takeout any time I am in Montclair. Next time I will get the same thing + the mac & cheese and sweet potato pie!!
