I finally stopped this evening after returning books at the library. They’re located right across the street on the corner. You really can’t miss them with their neon lights. They not only have good I takeout food, they also have groceries, of which I appreciated being able to buy buttermilk. Tonight I had their homemade mango lassi which can easily match those in a fancy restaurant, and their butter chicken with rice. The flavor was lovely and portion was generous enough for me. Next time I'll have the rice be separate from the main dish. I wasn’t sure if they sold a platter, as I would have enjoyed some naan. No matter…I plan to return to enjoy their other offerings.
I just stopped by today. I’m on a mission to learn how to cook Indian food (pasty white girl here). The owner helped me pick out the right spices and I also picked up some awesome vegetable samosas!! They also have a great selection of homemade Indian food to go including an Indian Protein Bowl!! The place is spotless! Right across from the library in Poughkeepsie!!
Ordered butter chicken and a curry and this is what we got. Spent $70. The food looked and smelt old. We didn’t bother to taste it. At least we got our money back…
Seeing that there was a decent amount of Indian restaurants, I wanted to try some before leaving town. We didn’t have much time so I thought maybe a quick pickup from a mom and pop shop might do the trick. I did myself and Poughkeepsie a disservice here. The butter chick resembled nothing like butter chicken. The sauce broke down so the fat separated from the sauce and it was an oily mess. The biryani was more like gumbo than anything, except it had no salt at all so the dish was spicy from all the spices. The rice was all mush and the chicken was also broken down into the rice so like I said, it was more like a gumbo. The samosas at least tasted decent but that’s probably because reheating them cant change the taste and texture too much. Maybe it was good when it first opened but it is
The owners seem to be very nice people. The store is kept clean and there seems to be a good variety of items. I have tried a few dishes so far and am not disappointed. The food is good and the prices are reasonable as well. I would definitely recommend trying a meal sometime.
