Don Vino's Italian Bar and Grill

Part of the fun while in a different town is to try local restaurants. I did that while in Porterville, CA. I dined at Don Vino's. It's an Italian restaurant with Italian and Mexican dishes. It's located in the heart of the downtown Porterville. The downtown is the cutest with its charming brick sidewalks and modern street lamps with an old fashion look. The restaurant has a secure back parking lot with an entrance. Or you can enter from the front, the street parking is angled lots so no parallel to parking fussiness. They were are able to accommodate large parties if you make reservations in advance. My large-ish group were even able to get separate checks. Appreciate that. Main Street here looks like a bit of a step into the past with the older structures and their furnishings. Nice area, but this building seems to stand out. Gave it a try. Saturday evening, after 8 so not too early and not too late. Sat at the bar per my usual dining methods while working out of town. The bar seating was open, and I was thirsty. Ordered a double Jack Coke, it was tasty. The bar tenders, et al. were quite friendly through the evening. Striking conversations and talking with various topics. It was apparent right away that this is what they do and they enjoy it. Browsing the menu, I couldn't help but check out the ravioli option a few times. I went with it. Glad I did. I attended a surprised 50th birthday party for Cliff Wiggins with a buffet style 3 main dishes that were all amazing. The bar was awesome, and I was able to order my drink of 2-shots whiskey and strawberry lemonade. Usually, bar drinks are watered down, and I can drink 2, but this was definitely 2 full shots and could only drink 1 having to add more strawberry lemonade halfway. The staff were very available & pleasantly served everyone, attend to the full party with all needs. In the last several decades, Coustomer Service has been atrocious and for myself is no longer expected. I've even had to remind too many establishments over the years saying " I hope you never come to my place of employment and expect me to treat you any better than your treating us" than tell them I'm an RN working

The place recently changed hands. It was a tad higher priced than I expected, but that is what happens when menu pic on google is 3 years old. They now have a kids menu that even included steak bites which my son loved. Hubby got flat iron and I got NY strip. Total before tip with drinks and kids meal $67. Good price and the food was delicious. Atmosphere is so so, but the wait staff was pleasant and prompt.

WOW just WOW, What can I say i wanted lasagna, I got LASAGNA!!!!!!!! My Wife's Chicken parmasian, was the size of a Frizbee and the flavors in every dish were absolutely delightful and bright with basil notes everywhere. We started the night at another Italian restaurant who was going out of business and 50% of the menu was off the list Thank God we didn't settle, and left and arrived at Italian food Heaven Don Vinos!!!! The bread tastes home made and home baked and so fresh, the bruscetta and caprice salad were fresh with real motzelrella. I might come back to the whole town just to eat here again Bravo Don Vino!!
