On a recent trip through Connecticut, my family and I stopped at Down the Hatch for lunch. It’s a pretty nice lakeside restaurant. There’s a large outdoor seating area that overlooks the lake; very nice. The atmosphere is casual and if you’re on the lake you can pull your boat up to their dock. Pictured is the lobster roll which was fantastic. The servers and hosts were all very friendly and attentive. If I were to be in the area again I would definitely make s as return trip, maybe for a nice evening dinner. Prices were reasonable.
Simply stated this is the place to be for a wonderful summer afternoon with friends, family or kids! Great food, drinks, view and ambiance. Service was excellent. We had cheese burgers and fries and just a wonderful relaxing afternoon. The views of Candlewood Lake are fantastic. Come here by land or boat... you will not be disappointed!
If you want to have a pleasant time in Brookfield, I suggest you visit this restaurant. The food? I've actually always ordered the tacos; I find them delicious and different from the tacos I've had at other restaurants, which I really appreciate. But what I like most is the atmosphere. It's right on the shore of Candlewood Lake, so if you want to sit at one of their tables by the lake, it's very relaxing. You can even take a boat ride on the lake since they have their own dock and boats available (for a fee, of course!). I haven't tried it myself, but it looks like a great experience. The customer service? The waiters provide excellent service, but don't expect the same from the receptionist (I'm sorry, I have to be honest, I don't mean to be rude, hostess!). Overall, it's a very nice plac
I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and was given the option of grilled or crispy chicken. I asked if the crispy chicken was similar to a chicken cutlet, and the waitress said yes. This is what I received: a Caesar salad topped with three chicken nuggets. I just wish she had told me they were actually chicken nuggets—I would’ve gone with the grilled chicken instead. The bite mark was from my son.
Spending summers at Candlewood Lake is always fun. And enhancing that experience is Down The Hatch. DTH is the ONLY public restaurant on Connecticut’s largest lake and offers a variety of classic bar foods, salads, and spectacular views. The large dive-bar offers plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and it is always a good time here. The burgers are OK, but the seafood, salads, and fried foods are the shining stars of this place. Whatever you order, don’t forget to feed the locals.
