Downtown Barbecue

Don’t let the seemingly low rating of this restaurant keep you away! The barbecue is delicious and the herbed potato salad is on point. The pulled pork was tender and the barbecue sauce was a fantastic compliment. The portions are generous and the happy hour deals are fantastic. The atmosphere is superb and I can imagine how nice it would be in summer. I would definitely come back!

Downtown BBQ… I went in like a disciplined little bonsai master, centered and composed. 🌳 I left smelling like smoke and life decisions. Started with the Oklahoma Smash — ground brisket smashed into glory, grilled onions doing sweet caramelized yoga on top, melty American cheese hugging everything together, pickles bringing that sharp little karate kick, and campfire sauce that tastes like it was bottled straight from a perfect Sonoma backyard evening. First bite? Silence. Respect. Inner monk nod. But then… I made eye contact with the menu again. And I saw it. Pork n’ Beef Hot Link. Bold. Spicy. Earthy. House pressed. Mustard sauce. I have eaten here many times, and I've been impressed every time. Let's face it.....there are many opinions about what makes good cornbread--so many variations. I love the whole grain feeling of their cornbread rather than eating a piece of cake that tastes like corn. Each to their own. The menu has something for everyone....lower price range for a variety of sides....vegetable type stuff like collards, and that potato salad is SO good...the twice baked potato so loaded was good for 2 meals....the meat is well smoked and tasty....good pizzas....innovative drinks....the salads are fresh....and the space, well it's spacious, great for kids, and dog friendly. This is the only BBQ spot in Santa Rosa, so I was excited to give it a try. Unfortunately, the first bite of cornbread was a letdown and foreshadowed the rest of the dishes. It was dry and hard. The meats were decent, though they could use a bit more moisture. No pineapple-marinated options here, either. It was worth trying once, but I wouldn’t return unless they make some improvements.

I have eaten at a LOT of bbq spots across the states. The atmosphere was on point. Our server was amazing. Could have been because it was Monday but the brisket was very dry. I expected to get a drier portion because I chose the lean brisket, but this was over done. This should be the cornerstone of any fantastic bbq restaurant. The BBQ was good, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
