Downtown Bend Library

I'm a local, born and raised in Bend. The library has always been a place to go and enjoy some free time. To this day, I go to study and get through schooling. The staff I'd always nice, the selection of books is vast, and the facility itself is clean. The only thing that is hard to manage is the homeless individuals. While I understand they need a place to go outside of the cold or hot weather, it would be nice to have restrooms that aren't consistently occupied. Aside from that, it's still a great place.

The staff is hard working and helpful, incredibly friendly. Bathrooms are always clean. The seating is great for comfort and seats are clean. The book selection is fantastic. There are a few private rooms you can request. There is a printing station for a small fee and lots of computers. It's a well managed library with great hours. Easy parking nearby and I love the tree views out of the window when sitting down to read. Great internet.

Absolutely disgusted. I walked to the Deschutes public library with my son to read some books. He’s six years old and the only books on display other than maybe a select a few were about boys being girls and about immigrants “even if illigal” are welcome in the country. Talk about serious grooming and indoctrinating our children. They were all ON DISPLAY for my son to choose from. When I asked why they were in the kids section and on display I got no answer. My six-year-old shouldn’t have to question and be confused reading a book about sex and gender. He should be focused on riding bikes and playing. Also, since they are big on inclusivity where were the Christian based books? COULDNT FIND ONE

I take it back - the specific lady isn't your problem. It seems to be a larger staff issue. Learn kindness. I usually love going to the library. It is one of my happy places. Unfortunately, there is a library employee who is not only rude but borderline abusive. She is an older woman, tall, shoulder length grey hair. I cringe every time I see her. She usually is yelling "have you been helped?" Today (like last time she approached me) I had to go the front desk. I was returning a hotspot and when I got to the front desk, she rolled her eyes and asked if I had been helped. I told her I was just returning a hotspot and she looked me up and down and said "so it's super late" and I said "no, it's just due today" She had not looked up my account and appeared to be judging me on appearance. Great library with a wonderful selection of books and other media. WiFi is solid and lots of computers and work spaces available. However, the people who use this library seem to have never been inside one before : screaming children running through the shelf isles, crying babies, people talking allowed and calling out to each other, taking phone calls, playing videos out loud , etc. I'm a little disappointed the staff doesn't address this as it's very distracting to read or study. Even with my ear buds in, I'm constantly being disturbed. Not trying to put the library down or anything but keep in mind if you are coming to get any work done whatsoever because it can be quite difficult.
