Eagles Nest Public Golf Course

I brought my grandson here to the driving range. It was his first introduction to the game. The facility is a bit dated but everything was functional. The grass tee area was a bit tall but still workable and manageable. The also have mat tees. We used those fro driving practice. They have a practice putting green and a green to practice pitching, chipping and bunker shots. I decided to play 9 holes here later that afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the greens, tees, and fairways. The rough is fairly thick. It’s difficult to locate your ball in the rough. The course is very flat. With a few water and sand hazards. Overall a nice choice for a quick 9.

This course is representative of its (I assume) owner. I played 9 holes here a few weeks ago, and while it was bad, it wasn’t this bad. That time, I had a pleasant interaction with the yellow-toothed man that I assume owns this landfill. So when a friend came into town from three hours away, I decided to book us a tee time here last Sunday. Now, onto the reason I will never be back. We had a 7:40 AM tee time for a twosome—the earliest available that day. When we arrived, I could tell the owner was already in a bad mood. He told us it was cart path only and apologized for the course conditions, stating verbatim: “The dandelions are bad because of the hot and dry summer we had last season. I know this because I’m a licensed greenskeeper.” (Whatever that means.) At this point, I thought

First the good the greens are in decent shape The cart girl was sweet and checked on us multiple times the club pro there is a really personable guy and enjoyed talking to him. Now the rest. This goat track is a mockery to golf. The fairways are made up of dandelions in the spring and crabgrass in the fall. If you have never lost a ball in the fairway before you have not been to the eagle nest. If it rains the night before wear hunting boats as drainage is not a thing here. The sand traps are close to kitty litter and the pricing at $47 is inline with other courses within a 20 mile radius that are 100% better. What an insult to the courses that actually work on their course maintenance on a day to day basis. We played the other day and the starter (cart jockey) kept pushing us to play

Mayflies everywhere, cart died on hole 4 and overall terrible course. Fairway and rough are the same, standing water on sides of path. No irrigation. Onsite crew only seem to want leagues or regulars. Got upset at us for not bringing back the cart that died… what should we have done pushed it?

Eagles nest is a super important high-school golf course, The workers are all very nice and if the place had irrigation it would probably be an awesome course. Its really beginner friendly and if you go at the beginning of the season then its usually in pretty good condition- towards the end of the season you'll want to play lift, clean and place since the grass is patchy but other than that it is in pretty good shape
