E.A.K. RAMEN Westfield Garden State Plaza

Pleasantly surprised by this mall ramen spot. Definitely would come again on a cold day in the mall looking for a sit down restaurant. Ramen was good (boyfriend ordered the classic and I got the zebra as recommended by the waitress) though not our absolute favorite. We both added an egg. They said they were taking the calamari out which we originally wanted so we got their shrimp and liked it. It was just over $50 total so it’s on the more expensive end of mall food.

Flavorful broth, thick wavy ramen is the way the paper bowls of soup come out! Self serve tablet ordering and modern sit in area. The green vegetables do come out a bit soggy, seems cooked through and through and bowls don't come with many toppings by default, so recommend adding a seasoned egg at least.

Have been going to E.A.K. for the past year and the food and service has been top knotch. It's been really nice to be able to get a delicious bowl of ramen at the mall. Kura offers a bowl at a similar price point but does not compare to the quality at E.A.K. I always park by Shake Shack so that I have the option of getting a bowl on my way out if I'm feeling it (and I'm usually feeling it). Not that it changed how it tastes, but now that they've changed the bowls, I really feel like I'm having the full on restaurant experience. My recommendation: Zebra Shio (with spicy oil). 10/10

We needed a place to grab quick lunch on Saturday noon, so decided to try out this newly opened restaurant in GSP. The store is next to Macy’s watch section entrance. It is mainly self served. You have to put in your order at register and then pick it up when order number is called. They have a huge dining area, with regular/high chairs and tables. We ordered the takoyaki, karaage, shrimp bao, curry over rice with chicken and EAK Shoyu ramen. Impressively, the whole order was ready in couple of minutes. I loved the taste of all the items., especially takoyaki and kareage chicken. Shrimp in the bao was good but needed some sauce. Ramen’s broth was tasty. Noodles were good. I’ve been going to EAK Ramen since they opened and have eaten inside many times, always with food served in the same to-go style packaging. Today was my first time ordering through Grubhub for convenience since I’m alone with my toddler. The food came packaged exactly the same—but apparently now you can’t dine in if you order that way due to their new “full service” model (which was never clearly communicated). The issue wasn’t even the rule—it was how it was handled. The waitress watched me get my child fully settled before telling us we had to leave, forcing me to carry everything and my toddler out to the mall seating, then come back for the food.
