Ordered the Canasta Oaxaquena. The meat, cheese and beans were delicious. Everything on our plate, including the tortillas were flavorful. Not only that, the young servers tending to us were very attentive and had great customer service. Wish I could have thanked the elderly lady cook who made our dinner. If you’ve never had this type of Mexican food, it’s a must.
Absolutely fantastic start to finish! Came in for my birthday dinner. My wife and I shared the mole negro and mole Amarillo. Both were very flavorful and worth getting small boxes to take home the little bit left on both plates. The server was very nice and brought over a piece of flan for my birthday. Again, delicious! We will definitely be returning.
Rice and beans are flavorful. The rice reminds me of the chicken oil rice that comes with hainan chicken. I’m guessing they used chicken stock to cook it. It’s much better than white rice and not mushy. The rellenos peppers were flavorful and molotes were nice as well. Chips a bit burnt but appreciated the fresh tortillas and chips and salsa. They didn’t charge extra for them. Good friendly service. Kids menu of the same items but in smaller portions.
If you are in the area this restaurant should be added to your list! We ordered the Mole Negro with chicken, Flautas Enmoladas, the Agua Fresca of the day (prickly pear), and a Cafe de Olla! Everything we ordered was incredible and everyone was so nice! My fiancé and I are big mole fanatics and the Mole Negro we both agree is one of the best we have ever had. If we lived here we would certainly be going here all the time!
I was pleasantly surprised to find this jewel in Seaside. I was looking for a Mexican restaurant, and found El Padrino. I like Oaxacan food and decided to give it a try. I'm happy to report that the place is excellent and quite authentic. I had a Oaxacan taco (in a 10 inches long corn tortilla!). The restaurant agreed to my request to mix beef and pork. The rest of the menu, the "moles", "tlayudas", empanadas, etc. looked authentic. You won't find the usual Mexican food fare: burritos, street tacos, etc, but I didn't mind. Talking to the staff, they want to focus only on Oaxacan food, which is quite understandable if it helps keep the food quality high. Others didn't seem to mind, as the restaurant was quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. Highly recommended. Ready to come back!
