My recent visit to Elm City Caffe was, unfortunately, one of the most unacceptable dining experiences I have had. To begin with the positives: the space itself is beautifully designed. The ambiance, decor, and overall aesthetic are thoughtfully curated, and the environment appears clean and well maintained. The pricing of the food initially seemed reasonable. However, presentation and aesthetics cannot compensate for fundamental failures in food safety and service. The food was objectively unacceptable. My friend was served a chicken sandwich containing visibly raw chicken in the center — not slightly undercooked, but raw. In response to the owner: I would suggest that I’ve never paid $5 anywhere for refillable diner coffee or soda anywhere. Your soda and coffee isn’t special. Came in on a Monday morning at 9:30am, with my husband and daughter. The service was good and the server was very attentive, regularly checking up on us and offering us a refills on coffee. I was looking for a classic Northeastern diner level food and in that aspect, it was exactly what I expected. So, this place received good marks for the food and service. Unfortunately, the prices are really silly for diner quality food. There was nothing spectacular and it was nearly $60 out the door for 3 drinks, 2 plates and 2 eggs on the side. Elm city cafe is the cutest spot nestled between Stuart and Jensen. Their chicken sandwich and BLT are unbeatable. Have not found a better lunch option in the area. Staff is super friendly, the cafe itself is clean and parking is easy!

First off, to any of the reviewers comparing this to the crappy "diner" across the street, you are delusional. This is a "cafe" NOT a "diner," and you taste it in every bite. Upscale breakfast and lunch featuring items that will make all the snow birds from Connecticut quite happy, include the state's best coffee, Willoughby's. The food, service, and vibe are all exceptional. The eggs are real (not liquified from a bottle), the home fries delicious, the avocado toast made to perfection. A perfect meal to start the day! And VEGAN friends take note: they have a vegan tomato soup that will blow your mind!
