I previously thought that the Galena Gazette was a well done, small town newspaper covering the local news and events, but as of fall of 2025, I noticed the paper has been lacking in coverage of issues and, in my personal opinion, has posted at least one article where it was a little misleading. When I moved to Galena, I found it helpful to keep up with local events, but if critical stories (I.e., how are the local soybean farmers doing as just 1 example), I don't feel the need to keep my subscription.
The Galena Gazette is the best newspaper for anything local to Galena ans Jo Daviess County, IL.
Hometown paper for years...always the best!!! In the old day the saying was "Main Street My Beat by Sam" Galena Gazette!!!
Excellent reporting by Hillary Dickerson covering the Jo Daviess County Court System and the problems recently.
