Gilberto's Cafeteria

The service makes you feel special—very warm and attentive, as if you’re a guest in someone’s home. The prices cannot be beat. I had a croqueta de jamón and found it bland. The cortado was heavier on milk than typical. The atmosphere was diner-like— not fancy, old school, embracing a theme of indigenous America including a very interesting & unique mural. Although I didn’t love what I ate on my first visit, I will come back if I’m in the area for a different meal.

The best Cuban sandwiches IMO and can’t beat the price . Lunch specials are always great. Big portions. I love their chicken soup

Gilberto’s is a historical staple in the North Bergen Community, proudly serving upper North Bergen with traditional hispanic dishes. The menu consists of daily meals (ex: “we serve pot roast and pork on monday for this meal and beef next day”) along side some everyday general options. This “cafeteria” really is so small and downscale, so dont expect complete upscale food, but you do have a warm cozy hispanic spot. There is a language barrier between English and Spanish but I personally didnt need to worry about it ymmv Options include soups, some meats, some carb options (tostones, bean, rice) and some veggies. Food is cheap, but there is a $10 card minimum.
