Golden Skillet

It was my first visit here. Clients in Lynchburg recommended that I make a pitstop here in Chatham on my way back home. I knew I was in for a surprise when even the nice ladies working at the gas station next door gave a rousing endorsement for the fried chicken! They weren’t kidding! The restaurant is a tiny , modest place with very friendly, welcoming, and attentive staff. I ordered the 3 piece fried chicken dinner with sides and a sweet tea as recommended by Cameron, who was very helpful! Thank you! The chicken was amazing! Lightly breaded, perfectly spiced, and absolutely flavorful!? I would guess that the chicken is brined because this was probably ONE OF THE BEST samples of fried chicken that I’ve ever tasted! We are staying near Gretna and were craving fried chicken on a Wednesday night. This was the closest restaurant to us. So we made the drive and have no regrets. The fried chicken is juicy and perfectly crispy. The mashed potatoes and gravy are nothing to rave about. The coleslaw is a bit different than I’m used to, but it was good. It was a steady flow of people either going through the drive through or coming in the door. Don’t forget the hush puppies!

This was a great stop along our route passing through. Down home, no frills; counter ordered and table served with plates, silverware, and cups all disposable. The chicken was offered fried or roasted, both were excellent. The fried chicken reminded me of my mom’s growing up. Prices were very reasonable and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal.

I absolutely love this place! It is like a cozy little time capsule of the 1980s. The food is yummy and a good value. I recommend the burgers!

I remember this restaurant from my childhood. The chicken was so delicious. Just as I remembered it. I highly recommend this place.
