Customer Reviews
The pastries at Guglhupf are always fresh, delicious, and beautiful. Plus, the staff is so friendly and helpful. Our favorite treat on Valentine’s Day was the White Chocolate Raspberry Eclair. We’re so lucky to have this wonderful bakery in Durham!
I had high expectations for Guglhupf after hearing it described, along with Loaf, as one of Durham’s top bakeries. Compared with truly top tier bakeries, however, it falls short. The technical baking skills are good (not great), and flavors are okay, but many items lean overly sweet and rely on sugar rather than complexity. Ingredient quality also seems lower than at leading North Carolina bakeries such as Owl Bakery in Asheville or Boulted Bread in Raleigh. Overall, Guglhupf does not particularly distinguish itself. This better than North Carolina's average joint is fine for a loaf or a sweet treat but foodies will not fall in love.
I placed an order online. After checking it over, I discovered that I failed to order the birthday cake which was the original purpose of my online order. On the morning of the pickup, I called the bakery and prayed that I could ordered a birthday cake too. Thankfully, they had the perfect cake available. It was beautifully decorated and inscribed for me. I love how Guglhupf went “above and beyond” to help me. The cake and pastries were excellent. I look forward to coming back again and again.
Wonderful food and bakery. I preorder from bakery online. Atmosphere is very welcoming. We drive from south Raleigh, worth the trip!
So rare to find real, old-school baked goods! And I know, I am old and worked in a bakery when I was young. This is it. Real ingredients and as amazing to look at, as they are yummy. I wish I lived closer. Every time I visit my kids I have to stop by for a schnecke or the butter cookies or elephant ears. Oh! And a scone! And how about this cake?
