Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken

This was my first time visit and highly suggested by a friend as some of the best chicken in town. While it was good chicken, it wasn’t without its faults. Service: Near non-existent. No order to the madness here. Doesn’t matter if you walk in first, you could be served last. If you’re not servicing people, you’re not moving tables. Then your restaurant isn’t making money it could be. There were a number of people who got up and left on our visit. One table across from us, was leaving. And then was quickly convinced to stay to place an order. Which still didn’t get their food before we left. Refills - good luck. Better speak up if you need something more or your bill. My little brother is from Memphis and suggested we try Gus’s because it is a Memphis staple. I have never had Gus’s, so I decided to try the tender plate. The fried okra was fresh out of the grease and very good. Better than most places in Houston I have tried fried okra at. Also, the greens were really good as well. The baked beans were some of the best I’ve had in Houston, and the Mac & Cheese came out almost perfect unlike a lot of places in Houston. The tenders were some of the best I’ve ever had and they were very tender and moist. I will most definitely be back. In the words of Memphis folks “That junt was too fye!”

Came in for a bite today after I drove 3 hrs just to see the 49ers blow it losing to the Texans!!!??? Crazy work....anyways found a table even though it was busy!!!! Elijah was our server he was amazing. He attended us quickly, kindly and efficiently. It was great i felt so welcome!!! He helped explain the menu after asking if it was our first time. Food was amazing, hot , fresh, seasoned!!!! Okkkk yeah loved it. Got a pie slice too also delish.... the tea nice and sweet but not crazy. Mac and cheese on point!! Okra my favorite 😍 beans good.. slaw perfect! I really am presently surprised. If your looking at these reviews ....I am not a paid sponsor 🤣🤣 i had to pay my tab but the food and service was that good.

Oh man, I thought Popeyes was good, but this chicken takes the cake. I have never had such amazing chicken ever. I got some legs and thighs and my family loved it. I cannot believe how good it was. And the staff was extremely welcoming, I was very impressed by their professionalism even though it’s not such a big restaurant, my cashier Seth, was amazing took care of me and explained how stuff worked and even made small talk, I had such a great time there. Most definitely will come back again, thank you Gus!!!

I’ve always loved Gus’s in Houston, so I figured the Kirby location would be just as good. Unfortunately, my experience was completely disappointing. I ordered chicken through Uber Eats and not only did I receive the wrong meal, but the chicken I got was red. I got the Uber issue sorted out, and even though I was already frustrated by the inconvenience, I told myself I’d try to enjoy the food anyway since I still had something to eat. But as soon as I tried it, I was shocked to see red all over my chicken. It honestly killed my appetite and made me really upset on top of the frustration I was already feeling. I even tried calling three times, but there was no answer. I don’t want to rate the service low because I didn’t deal with the employees, but the overall meal was completely unenjoyab
