Halgatteok Salt Lake City

We were greeted and given a sample of their rose tteokbokki and decided to dine in. Inside was nice and clean, good amount of space to sit down and eat. Our server was friendly, and given we were the only ones dining in at the time our food arrived at our table pretty fast. We ordered an order of fries for our kids, the portion was big and perfect to share. We also ordered our kids the deep fried dumpling (5pcs) and our kids were honestly not a fan. The filling seemed to just be glass noodles, and it was kinda bland. We got the rose sauce tteokbokki with noodles and cheese to share and it was so delicious! The highlight was the vegetable tempura! Enjoyed the shrimp tempura too. The main dish was too spicy for me, but my daughter loved it. Enjoyed the whole experience of SLC Chinatown, lots of different choices

Located inside the main Chinatown building, Halgatteok offers the classic street food - Tteobokki! These rice cakes covered in sauce and cheese are so delicious and addictive. We got a sampling outside of the store from Sergio and it was love at first bite! When we decided to go order a full entree, Sergio took the time to walk us through how the menu works (there were 4 steps with several options) and also told us exactly what we just tasted if we wanted to order that same dish again. I wish I could review the food, but I'm writing this based on the service. I was told my fish cake soup would be ready in 7 minutes. I was still waiting with no communication. It finally came out close to the 30-minute mark. I understand kitchens get busy, but a 7-minute estimate being off by over 400% is unacceptable. Poor management and a lack of respect for the customer's time. Won't be returning.

The atmosphere is good and the staff is friendly. I wasn't too satisfied with their food though. Their tteokbokki was a bit dry when it came out, and it wasn't flavorful. Their tempuras have a very thick batter which I'm not a big fan of. I personally feel like this place doesn't represent the generic taste of Korean street food. The broth for the fish cake soup was good but the fish cake wasn't. I don't think I'll come back.
