A deservedly well-known oceanfront Cuban-tiki setting within the iconic Art Deco facade of the Breakwater Hotel, serving solid tropical classics. A strong choice for cocktails and an hour watching Ocean Drive. Walk-in for two mid Saturday afternoon after a stretch along South Beach. Seated immediately on the open-air terrace. The terrace opens directly onto Ocean Drive. Red leather banquettes, circular pendant lights and a Havana 1957 x tiki vibe. Our server Marilyn introduced herself right away. I had a Sexy Colada, fresh pineapple, rum and cinnamon. Not too sweet, creamy and served playfully in a pineapple topped a purple orchid. We also had a classic mojito. Clear, bright and ice chilled with fresh mint and lime. Shared appetisers. Guacamole with crisp plantain chips. Great texture.
I mean, you eat on Ocean Drive for the iconic street location, and dining on the sidewalk here was by far my favorite part here — a constant supply of people watching makes dinner fly by (and even encourages a post-meal cocktail or two, which they’re happy to provide). The food is solid and filling, though I wouldn’t say it was spectacular — the chicken was a bit too tough, but the plantain was awesome. It seems like a good choice if you want to try Cuban food while visiting South Beach (and I mean, c’mon, you should!!), but I personally found the restaurants in Little Havana a bit more memorable if you’re willing to venture outside South Beach.
It was a great place for a corporate event! We had a group of 50. They sat is indoors. Food was AMAZING! Management and staff were wonderful. I don't like flan... at all... their was INCREDIBLE. I highly recommend you try them. This location is right in the heart of South Beach.
Very nice atmosphere. Be aware of waiter offering sparkling or still water only, a con to make you pay $9 for a bottle of water and up the bill for mandatory 20 percent tip regardless of service. The stuffed green plantains were good. Tamal was just ok, not worth it. The mojito presentation was nice but lacked any alcohol, not worth $19.
We had to wait a long time for a server, even though they weren't very busy. The atmosphere was fantastic, the people watching was a hilights. The food was just mid level, nothing I'd want to try again. The drinks were not exceptional either. Others around us seemed to be having a totally different experience. Having eaten at other Havana 1957 restaurants, it just wasn't the same quality I've come to expect from the food or people.
