Nice campground. Restrooms snd running water. You must have a permit. They do check them in the evening so have it in the provided box at the camp site you choose. Each spot has pack hangers, a table and a cover. Plenty of room to set up a tent but I slept under the stars. If it’s not raining I recommend it. Crazy beautiful! It’s a good spot for a base camp and hike other trails. I bought a bike lock for my gear but I don’t think you need it. Took me three hours to get to it and 4 hours and 20 minutes to get out. That was in the winter. Summer hiking must be tough when it’s hot. Hike during the recommended times. It’s a great time!!
My husband and I hiked all day into the night on May 17th and stopped at the ranger station. Rebecca helped us by giving us ramen noodles and snacks and a place to sleep. We were very grateful for her help and kindness. We were able to finish our rim2rim hike the next morning. Thanks for having great rangers there in the canyon!
We are extremely thankful to Becky and Christie at the Indian Garden Ranger Station for helping us rescue our friend who was having a medical emergency in Sept 15. Thanks much for offering food, shelter and very good advice. We were able to successfully complete our hike due to your support!
The rangers do a great job of checking on people to make sure they are ok to continue their hike back up the Bright Angel Trail. When the ranger inquired whether or not I felt ok to continue, I asked her: “hypothetically speaking, what would you do if I said no” She informed me that they regularly put people up at the Indian Garden Campground who are unable to continue and they are usually ok to make the 4.6 mile hike the next morning.
After suffering severe sodium deficiency on my hike up from the bottom, Betsy took care of me and my group, bringing me soup, arranging for camping at the point if I couldn’t make it up, and offering to prepare food for our other hikers. She waited until I felt better and lent crampons and a flashlight to help with the ice at the top of the trail. We were so well taken care of.
