Herrell's Ice Cream Mill District

My favorite thing to do is to buy a kiddie cone - nice and small and it hits the spot! Then I buy gift certificates to give to people when I want to show appreciation. Everybody loves Bear Bucks! Everybody loves Herrell’s.

Arrived at Herrell’s in Amherst today at 1:57pm(apparently, they don’t open until 2)It was about 20 degrees outside, as we walked inside the store when a woman shouted we are not open(door was not locked)you need to wait outside! My friend and I had our clients with us, mine is a 81 year young gentleman and hers is a younger handicap gentleman with PSP and struggles to walk with a walker. We turned around and went back outside and waited the 3 minutes. While we were waiting another employee walked past us and into the store. Once inside the woman who had us wait outside walked by us checking trash and the other employee never took off her coat or washed her hands but stood at the counter waiting for our order. Not even a welcome or can I help you! I ordered a scoop of chocolate/banana ice

So happy this shop is now in Amherst! Really delicious ice cream, sorbet and more. I had the sweet cream ice and cider sorbet and while I would absolutely get them again I’m super excited to try new flavors next time.

There's a reason USA Today rated them one of the best places for ice cream in the country! Their recipes are so creative (and based on real chemistry too). It's like the owners are the Wonka of Ice Cream, always inventing new ways to make the best ice cream. I have been a life long Herrell's ice cream fan, and so glad they are expanding. My mother makes sure to come to Herrell's whenever she visits the area, and says the biggest downside to living in New York is... no Herrell's Ice Cream!

I have been enjoying ice cream at Herrell's since I first moved to the valley in 1981. I'm always impressed by the diverse and unusual flavors, the base that is rich rather than oversweet, and by Judy Herrell's commitment to the community. It is not a coincidence that a national so-called super premium chain store open around the corner from the Northampton location within just a couple of years. They could not compete against the superior product that has been there since the 1970s.
