The disconnect between the kitchen and service is absolutely wild. I want to make sure I praise the kitchen, the meal was amazing. The waygu was cooked perfectly and the romin was splendid. I wish I could give the experience more stars but when we spend half of our time trying to flag someone down for a drink or to have our empty water glasses refilled (nope, no water bottle left at table) it horribly detracts from the experience. No bread was offered while the table next to us received it. The wine pairing recommendation was absolutely awful, and yes it was never offered to try, just went in for a full pour. The problem overall that the meal very much warranted the $300+ for dinner for two, but the service absolutely ruined the experience.
There were three of us who went to dinner Friday night and felt that the service was ok. Here's a quick break-down on the food: For the first course we had the Hamachi Crudo (tasted too fishy and shouldn't if its fresh) and the crab cakes (delicious). For the mains we had the seared Hokkaido scallops (very good) with soba noodles and bok choy (bland). We also tried the risotto (good), and Filet Mignon (really good but the potato with it was extremely salty). The drinks we felt were pricey and not worth the cost. Our overall complaint on this restaurant was they only offered two prix fixe menus only, nothing a la carte so you were forced to choose between the two menus. At over $400, it was quite expensive for three people (only two drinking cocktails) for what you got. For these reasons we
Reviews of uneven service seem correct. We are local and had dinner reservations on Thanksgiving, expecting to choose from the 3 or 4 course dinner as there was not a special menu on the website. However, the Thanksgiving menu, ($180 per person) was not what we expected. We tried going to Low Tide, but they only had outdoor seating available. The manager did offer to comp a dessert for the confusion. We ended up at the Indian restaurant (Namaste Bar & Grill) on the next block which was delicious and festive. I hope management finds its way, but wonder whether locals will be among their customers.
We decided to splurge and have dinner at High Tide to celebrate my birthday and it was disappointing to say the least. The restaurant was nearly empty on a Saturday night and now I understand why. I am not a fan of fixed price menus because we don't eat dessert, but wanted to try it anyway to experience the new resort which is absolutely lovely. However, the menu is so limited and the issue we had with it is there was no option for a salad and extremely limited veggies on the entrees. I have never been to a high end restaurant without greens of any kind! We requested a side of broccoli and carrots with our entrees which the chef accommodated, but when our dinner came the accompaniments were left off so all we got was steak and plain steamed veggies! We sent all the meals back and
Overall, mediocre. It would be relatively easy to get a better quality drink for half the price in Santa Cruz. The drinks are 30% more expensive than other high end places on Santa Cruz and significantly worse. It also took a long time to get drinks and to pay for them. The food we had here was also relatively flavorless and generic, but extremely overpriced. The vibe is fine but it is definitely a colonial feel. Not sure why you would ever go here over Venus, Abbott, or any bar on the Wharf.
