The bon Bo hue and bahn Cahn ARE SO GOOD. First time trying them, def much better than pho if you want authentic Vietnamese food. The free tofu pudding is a PLUS! Hidden gem!! Would come again.
Located off Euclid Street near the corner of Fifth Street in Santa Ana, Hue Kitchen is a cozy Central Vietnamese eatery specializing in beef noodle soup (bun bo hue). We didn't try this delicacy because we wanted to sample their other menu options including appetizers, rice dishes and beverages. Although the staff appeared to speak limited English, they were friendly and more than capable of providing an enjoyable dining experience. I tried one of the Hue Style Steamed Rice Cakes with Shrimp (Banh Beo Khay Hue) that my family ordered and it was quite the medley of ingredients atop a rice cake. I recommend topping with the included fish sauce and chili sauce for extra flavor. I personally ordered the Rotisserie Chicken Rice w/ House Special Sauce (Com Ga Roti Dac Biet), and I appreciate ho
The broth for Bun Bo Hue was very bland. It kinda taste like they Cook 1 pot of base soup and used that for all dishes. Dried shrimp topping for banh beo has no color, not sure if this is a region thing but I was disappointed. They also charged for tap water lol. Never again!
Stopped by for lunch and loved it! We had a couple of appetizers and the bun bo hue and all were delicious. The hue food is very authentic. We loved that this was a small family owner business and the service was very good! :)
Bun bo hue: -Mild broth with slight umami at the end, reminiscent of MSG. The initial temperature of the broth was on a warm side. It would be nice if it were on the hotter side, temp wise -protein: average. beef shank, beef tendon, pork ribblet, pork belly, coagulated pork blood, pork hoc -Side veggie: impressive. very fresh n clean -Free dessert at end of meal: nice touch. mild sweet, cool tofu
