I have been completely obsessed with this bakery for years. It's one of my very favorite places to be. I love walking my family's dog down, picking up a caramelized croissant or something else delicious, and sitting out on the patio with a coffee and the New York Times games on my phone, a book, or the paper. I basically won't eat bread that isn't from here. As a lifelong sourdough aficionado, Independent's sourdough is among the very best I've had, and I've been to a lot of bakeries around the world, including Copenhagen, Paris, etc. Get there early for a full bake case to choose from and go back again and again to try everything. Love all the staff too, they're my buds now.

I’m just home from a 40 minute round trip and a 15 minute wait in an outside line at 32 degrees having not received the loaf of spelt bread I ordered and paid for yesterday. I received the disappointing news that, while they charged me for the bread, they did not have my order at all. I really like their spelt but it is only available on Saturday mornings. There was no offer to remedy the situation in real time. The bakery owes me a refund for the cost of the loaf and I am curious how they are going to respond to having wasted my time (time is a currency and leisure time has a high value) as a result of their error. Again, their spelt bread is flavorful, has a moderately dense but not doughy texture and, holds both for enough time to enjoy the whole loaf. Wonder how they will contact me

Independent has the most quality and authentic pastries and bread loaves I have ever had outside of Italy. I would highly recommend their chocolate croissant if you like something light, flaky, and chocolate-y. 😊 Their Olive Bread is a family favorite, and we love to eat it with a little butter on top. I have never been disappointed with any of their products and I’ve been a customer for years ❤️ Parking is a little difficult and I would not recommend taking more than 3 people inside with you due to the smaller size of the building.

What a great bakery. In my travels, I learned that artisan breadmaking has become less.common, and the high quality of the bread certainly is uncommon. The pastry is a delightful too. While you can get coffee here, this is not a restaurant. They've a small counter, but really, take and go.

✅ Recommend: Morning roll - perfect smell and the texture! Croissant is good too but not as impressive as the morning roll. ❎ Not for me: Round bread - too hard for me. If you like hard crust; maybe this is for you. Perhaps the most famous bakery in Athens. My friends recommended me croissants and morning roll. Friendly staff and pretty store. Need to come early before they sold out!
