Kent Public Library

Some of the people at this library made our lives hell any chance they got. We were treated poorly, accosted by rude employees, and discriminated against. The director protects her staff and fails to take any of my concerns or complaints seriously. It literally made me sick to walk in there most days, but I did it for my children. They spent money excessively on full-color page printouts for each activity. Reed Memorial is less wasteful and very kind to its patrons. I'm so happy for all of the people who had such good experiences at this library. We did not. I would LOVE an apology the next time I go. However, that won't happen because they fail to take responsibility for the atrocious actions of some key employees.

Was acosted by a front desk worker, charging toward me with her finger in my face because the woman accused my daughter of eating in the library... due to seeing an uneaten hotdog in the garbage can. Wow. Same woman followed my little special needs boy into the women's bathroom, yelling that he was "too big." (We didn't let him go the the men's bathroom alone). My retired police officer husband told me that this was a violation of his civil rights being in NYS. Then when my tween daughter tried to apologize to her, she yelled at my daughter about my son. Bad day? Don't take it out on my children! This is only the last few negative encounters I have experienced at this "wonderful" library that everyone loves so much. Great Staff, always so helpful and friendly. You can reserve books online and pick them up at the library. They have computers, classes for adult, classes for children, a room downstairs for special events like musical classes. There is a playground being built in the quad area now so the children will have even more to do.

Kent's library is located in town square & is one of the best in the county. Free to enter, with computers and books galore--just get a free library card and enjoy its amenities! Offers free audio, video, and modem media as well.
