We were thrilled to find this food truck. We were craving some Malaysian food, which downtown San Diego seems to lack when we stumbled upon Robbie and Sara's food truck. Their Hainanese chicken rice with a twist hit the spot. Their crispy pork was incredibly delicious-crunchy yet tender at the same time. Robbie must have heard us exclaim how delicious their sauces were and brought an extra one over for us. Service is amazing, genuinely warm, and food is superb. There are tables and chairs strewn around the grassy area and eating outside in the fresh air was such a treat. We look forward to trying other items on their menu! Unfortunately in our excitement we forgot to take pictures before digging in.
Delicious food, it is so good and flavorful. The pork belly is so crisp and has so much umami flavor with the butter noodles, it’s a great combination. The chicken rice had that deep chicken flavor and comes with cucumbers, a ginger sauce, and extra broth on the side. Their Thai iced coconut green tea was refreshing and not too sweet! Honestly we left impressed and very satisfied with our food and service. They are a local small food vendor and deserve all the love.
Ko Kai has been such a blessing to have in San Diego! It is so hard to find restaurants with this type of food made this style! There are other variations of Hainan chicken but nothing close to this one. We have tried it all in San Diego and this one just hits home. It has a mix of Malay/Singapore and Chinese feel but from a Thai family! I was able to chat with the owners and they are super nice! Their descendants are from China but their family migrated to Thailand. This recipe has been past down generations and still operating till this day in the South of Thailand! This is a must try! You won’t regret it! I always have to keep an eye out for their announcements where they’ll be during the week! You won’t be disappointed!
They're only open on weekends. Khao Mun Kai is awesome, and I also got Khao Mun Kai Tod. Both are amazing! The staff is friendly, and the service is fast. I love this place!
Really happy to have stumbled across this stand on the weekend. Khao mun gai is hard to find! Really nice operators, too!
