La Calle Hot dogs

Corn dog would be great if it wasn’t cold in the center. Also the fries are under cooked. It’s not like it was super busy. No excuse. The guy at the window was nice.

The food itself is solid but the pricing is closer to a gastropub than a hot dog stand. A plain hot dog is ten dollars which is what some places charge for a full entrée. The bacon wrap and Hot Cheetos hot dogs hit eleven to twelve dollars which is gourmet pricing for very basic toppings. A beef corn dog runs seven dollars when most fairs sell them for three to five. Fries are five to ten dollars and the loaded fries are fifteen which is steakhouse appetizer territory. Even sodas are marked up to three to five dollars which is more than double convenience store prices. Overall you are not paying for ingredients or size, you are paying for the setting and novelty. The food is enjoyable but the value is not there.

My wife took me to California for my birthday. We were staying in Oakland, wanted to do some things to the East. I thought it would be a good idea to show her the outlets in Vacaville. As soon as we parked I saw the La Calle hotdog food truck. We both love a good bacon wrapped hot dog, so we thought we would give it a try. The guy at the register was on his phone when I got to the window, but I let him know that I wanted a number 2 but with just the bun and the bacon wrapped dog. I did not want all the extra topping because my wife does not eat those things. He told me it would be about 3 minutes. I walked up and asked the gentleman inside if he had corn dogs and he said yes. I asked him if they were handipped and he said yes. Apparently he is either ignorant or just a liar.
