Lake Bowen Fish Camp

Friday night - 7ish. First time here, and not our last. If the place has been here for 50 years, they must be doing something right. Andrew was our server, he was very attentive, gave good suggestions, and took great care of our party of 2. We loved the old school look of the place. It was too dark to see the lake so we'll go during the day for the best views. Food was hot and fresh, and the hushpuppies were phenomenal. Everyone we encountered during our visit was helpful and pleasant.

The food was very good and definitely the highlight of the visit. The service was excellent; the staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome at all times. The atmosphere is calm and allows for easy conversation, especially if you are not very demanding. However, the first impression could be improved, as the place looks somewhat old and would benefit from renovation. Considering how popular this location is and the beautiful view of the lake, investing in the facilities would greatly enhance the overall experience. One important detail to keep in mind is that they only accept cash or checks, so it is best to come prepared. Overall, it is a good place with strong potential to be even better.

We were greeted promptly at the hostess stand and set pretty quickly. The scenery was the best part of the experience. I got the seafood platter it was not bad but could have better seasoned. One person in our party ordered the hamburger steak which was not prepared right and had to wait a while to get the food. The food arrived quick maybe to quick. Even after messing it up there was no offer to correct it or offer of any kind, it was just like here it is and that's it. I had heard so much about this place and was excited to try, it'll be awhile before I go back.

I haven't been here for several years... Now I know why. Ordered the Seafood platter and only received two shrimp, two oysters, two scallops and three small pieces of flounder. Very disappointed. The flounder was oily and no flavor. The oysters were all breading and the shrimp were way over cooked. Tuff. Two small scallops too. The restaurant is nice and is on a great location. Lake Bowen. The staff was very good and attentive. I would recommend the Flounder restaurant off of I-26 and Pottery road. Here's a picture of the bill and my plate.

So, #1 it is a Cash Only business! 2, you can get your items broiled instead of deep fried, but otherwise everything is fried unless you ask. Portions are good sized. Catfish and large shrimp were good. Perch was too fishy for us. April was a fantastic server, ask for her. Beautiful view and good prices.
