Matt's Smackin Macs

Utterly amazing food. I got the By the Bay Shrimp Mac N' Cheese and my daughter for the BBQ Bacon Burger Mac N' Cheese. The Mac is rich and creamy, the shrimp was delicious and the didn'tskim on how much they put in. Great portion sizes, which makes the slightly higher price tags worth it. The restaurant itself is a tiny hole in the wall with not much atmosphere to it but the food more than makes up for that. Highly recommend to anyone passing through, as well as locals whom haven't tried it yet. With so many different dishes, I can't wait to go back and try a different one!

Saw this place driving by and HAD to loop back around to try it. We got the BBQ chicken and the Garlic Parmesan chicken, and when I tell you we drove back home 20 mins and these bowls were still so hot I had to blow on each bite!! Never in my life have I had takeout that stayed that hot! The flavor profile was perfect, not too salty, not too spicy, and none of that artifical faux "cheesy" flavor. Just good old fashioned loads of melty, delicious cheese. Service was excellent, and the folks had our food out to us fresh within 15 mins. We absolutely will be returning many times in the future!

This popped up on my IG so I had to try it out. I was not disappointed!!! The Mac & Cheese by itself was fantastic. It was made even better when combined with the shrimp. If you read the other reviews, believe when they say it's hot. The cool people working the counter asked me if I wanted a bag too! I was like, "Nah, I'm good." I ended up using my wallet as a trivet. I will definitely be going back!

3 stars for the food. My husband and I have been seeing this place pop up in our TikTok and Instagram feeds so we decided to give it a try, plus we live about 10 minutes away and pass it often. This has got to be the hottest meal we’ve ever received for take out. 30 minutes later it’s still steaming hot and burning our mouths. But that’s a good thing! No one wants cold food! We enjoyed our Mac’s and definitely would stop by again but were hesitant because customer service here is practically nonexistent. Now the bad.. Matt, whatever young girl was working on 10/9/25 at 2:20pm needs some talking to. Not friendly or helpful in the slightest. The Mac. Was FANTASTIC. Had me doing that Keith Lee eye roll when the flavor hit! Creamy, seasoned right, perfect texture. I got the Cajun Mac, and it was so good I stopped halfway just so I could run it back for breakfast. You hear me? BREAK-FAST. A stranger put me on to this spot, and I’m glad I listened. I’m from the Raleigh-Durham, NC area, and I’m already planning to swing back through Newport News in November just to get another bowl. Great customer service, even better Macs.
