Menya Briargate

Gyoza was delicious and reasonably priced. Edit 1: Went back, the udon noodles were amazing, this spot is quickly becoming a favorite. Also had the Beef Gyoza deal again, superb. Edit 2: Just had the spicy miso, delicious but not as filling as the udon for the price. Service was once again excellent, and the Steins Gate OST instrumental was being played which was nostalgiac and made me smile. Edit 3: The crab is delicious, the marinated chushu eggs are amazing, and the bulgogi is really good. The only negative is that there seems to be a problem with reheating prepared meat, the bulgogi wasn’t fully hot on some parts. As well the fried rice tends to upset my stomach vs the white rice. Food is good, standard Asian food, but way overpriced for what you get. $16 for a smallish bowl of noodles with a few slices of meat? The same dish goes for $3 in Asia. Kind of weird to see the "cook" in the kitchen was a young white guy.... One bad sign was how fast our orders were ready, as if everything had been cooked and prepared? In Asia, it usually takes 5-7 minutes, but here it was literally like 1 minute, and we were the only people in the place. So the noodles are pre-cooked and added to the hot broth? No idea. Anyway, I knew the price when I ordered, so whatever, but my biggest complaint was how dirty the place is. The decor hanging over our tables had visible dust and spiderwebs hanging off them. The menya ramen bowl is delicious, rich and flavorful. The icecream is yummy too as well as the drinks. It’s a nice atmosphere too and the staff is always friendly and fast.

The food was good enough but oh my word the place is filthy. I couldn’t stop noticing at how dirty everything was. The restaurant needs a deep clean and a declutter. It’s too bad more effort isn’t put into the atmosphere because the room itself is doing a disservice to the food. I would have enjoyed my food more if I didn’t feel like I had to take a bath in hand sanitizer. Just kidding hand sanitizer is toxic but good grief hire a cleaner!

Would probably give 3.5 if possible, but this place feels closer to 4 than 3. The tables are self-bussing, so it was challenging to find a clean place to sit even though there were only 2 other groups at the time. However, the food was delicious! The poke bowl is the best value and super yummy, and the ramen is good. We were told to check out the chili oil that's for sale and we're so glad we did! That really elevated the already delicious food. Overall, a good place to grab a quick meal but is a bit pricey.
