Mindy has been the accountant for my business since I first opened my doors 10 years ago. Her advice has always been excellent and she always takes the time to work through unique situations with me and explain them fully and patiently. The pandemic and the newly emerging landscape of hiring and maintaining employees have been a challenge for all small business owners, but Mindy has navigated it indefatigably and with integrity. When I look back at the myriad of financial and tax-related decisions I’ve made over the years, I know I wouldn’t be where I am now without her. This was the third year we have taken my 94 year old mother's taxes to Mindy. The first year was fine - she did an extension, but everything was filed by August and we had her refund shortly thereafter. Last year was bad, we did the extension and the taxes were filled after the extension deadline. Mindy deducted all the penalties from her bill. This year, I dropped off all our documents in early April and after calling and emailing repeatedly throughout the late summer into the fall, she finally finished them and I picked them up on October 25th. Again, penalties were assessed by the IRS and the state which were deducted from our bill. BUT - here it is almost 2 months past the filing and we still have not received our refund. We've been using Mindy Thomas for a few years for our taxes without problems, but this year was really awful. We submitted all the paperwork many weeks in advance and then did not hear from her...when it was two days before the deadline, I tried to contact her a couple of times to see what was happening but she did not get back to me. Then I found that the day after the deadline they submitted my return at the last minute, without showing it to me first. Its the day after the deadline and I am still waiting for them to send me what they submitted. For my partner, they got an extension -- without checking with her first or even letting her know before the deadline that it was their plan! I've only used this CPA for three years now, and the last two have gone from bad to worse. Last year, it was the last day to file when I called and was "ok'd" to come in and sign my returns for filing. This year, same drill. After hearing nothing the day before, I called on the morning of tax day and her assistant told me this CPA was with a client and would call me back. At 9:15 pm after not hearing back from her I called and asked what my status was, and if an extension was needed to prevent me from filing "late". She said not to worry, that she would have them done by MN. We then agreed to meet on Friday to review everything.
