Mineola Memorial Library

Had a poor experience today at the library. Contacted East Williston library which was closed, and shelter rock library that said their color printer was not working, today or tomorrow and could not say when it would be workings. Then called Mineola Library to see if I could print out a color copy and the lady on the phone said yes. Upon arriving at 5:17 I was told that the library closes at 5:30 and everything is already shut down. I rushed out the door in traffic to get over there. While waiting for the lady who was helping me, that stepped away, John popped into the reception area saying something about "we're done now, so you can go" when I was not in a conversation with him. I have been to this place and that it is a nice quiet place where the people go there to read books, borrow books, search the internet and do other things. There were kids, and adults there.

The director of this library threw an angry outburst toward me. He yelled and screamed at me when I told him his secretary was making too much noise in the study area. When I told him excessive noise is a violation of the code of conduct, he yelled "the code of conduct only applies to outside people, not employees. Get out of my office! I will call the police!" He continued threatening and harassing me for about 10 minutes. The secretary joined the attack in the last 5 minutes. Their attack continued until I escaped and returned to the study area. In the past, I have seen him yelling at students and kids in the library and kicking them out of the library. He also said bad words to them. This happened at least three times in the past six years. I came to this library with my daughter and her friend, and my daughter had to use the bathroom, there are 2 bathrooms, but 1 of them had pee on the toilet seat, and the other one was occupied, so she was waiting, and the director came and told her and her friend " you were just in there 2 minutes ago" when she wasn't and he was calling her a liar, I do not appreciate the kind of language he used with my daughter! And he also told her that she put the pee on the seat! I do not appreciate how he was talking to my daughter!

One of the great pleasures in my life is having father/daughter time. We have visited quite a few so far and the Mineola Memorial Library has one of my favorite children's section. It is located in the bottom floor away from the main library. What I Iike about that is that toddlers can be toddlers which is a little noisy and it's OK. No reproaches from the librarians or the adult patrons. I also like when a librarian greets the parent and the child. It is inviting. There were some very pleasant children playing with a nice selection of toys. Luna made friends. The selection of books was plentiful and the didplays were neat. Outside the library there is a very nice park for the children to play. Not part of the library but part of the town's cultural design. A library worth revisiting wit
