New Bedford Free Public Library Francis J. Lawler Branch

The parking situation doesn’t make sense if you’re coming from the South side of the library because of the “no left” turn on Lake Street. So coming from Buttonwood Park, we pulled into the driveway to drop off some books and the assumed “city worker who runs the library” said “why are you parking in the driveway?!” with one of the most condescending attitudes. She then proceeded to say “only city official cars are able to park there and I am supposed to park there.” We asked if she drives a city vehicle and she said “no, but I’m a city worker.” I’m not sure why the rules she stated, does not apply to her. The only beneficial thing that came from this exchange was that my daughters were provided a firsthand example of how NOT to talk to people. If you are able to go to another library, the

Always friendly staff, who do their best to hold fun, family friendly events for the community. Extremely helpful, as well. This library is more than just a library for some; it's a building of memories, knowledge, and growth. Very spacious for a small scale library, very cozy & inviting!

This place was a lovely safe haven when me and my friends were able to go. It made dealing with life just a bit easier at times. The librarians are kind as well and helped us out when we needed it. I love this place and hope to come back sometime soon.

I would like to have Matt recognized for helping me and my granddaughters at our last visit there. For his professionalism and patience. What a nice young man. A few people should take lessons from him. Again Matt from my granddaughters and I Thank you!!
