New City Kosher Deli

Great place for a pastrami sandwich! My sister goes out of her way to go here. The food is good and consistent. They also have lots of options. A delicious pickle comes with the sandwich and the prices are reasonable. Will go back when I need to pick up a quick bite. No indoor seating at this time.

I grew up in New City and this used to be a really good spot. My wife was in the area and wanted some matzoball soup. For 2 quarts with 4 extra Matzoballs it ended up being $30! She ordered it over the phone and didnt know the price, was embarrassed to say no thank you and just paid it. It was very subpar Matzoball soup - bland matzoballs, very weak broth and had nothing but noodles and a piece of carrot per container. Could have just made a 4 quart pot of my own for less than half the price (with chicken) Sadly not the same as it was growing up.

Stopped in to get my daughter matzah ball soup as she was not feeling well. Ordered two quarts to go. Only two medium Matzah balls in each quart. The rest of the soup felt like it was from Campbell’s. Mainly mini string noodles. I could have made better at home. Thought since I’m here I’ll try something famous. The man behind the counter said the corned beef was amazing. So I ordered that to go along with a veggie cake. Didn’t want all the carbs from a Knish. The man asked me if I like bread. And I was flustered. People standing behind me to order. I would have said yes on Rye please but he proceeded to just give me sliced corn beef as deli meat wrapped in paper, threw in a mustard and a pickle and charge me full price for a corn beef sandwich. I went for lunch and I was the only customer. Woman at the counter said they will be right with you. Both people behind ignored me for almost 10 minutes. By then another customer came in. Finally someone turned and said who is next. I ordered a pastrami sandwich and 2 soups for my wife and myself. I sat and the person brought the sandwich and 2 soups in containers. This is the coldest atmosphere ever. The food was good but I wonder, why didn’t the lady at the door take the order? Why didn’t the 2 counter people say anything?
